About Dr. Roohipour
Dr. Ramin Roohipour is a board-certified, fellowship-trained surgeon specializing in Bariatric, Advanced Minimally Invasive, and Robotic Surgeries. Dedicated to patient-centered care and surgical excellence, Dr. Roohipour provides advanced treatments for conditions such as obesity, hernias, gallbladder disease, gastrointestinal disorders, and cancer.
His approach prioritizes a personal connection with each patient, delivering the same level of care he would give to his own family. A leader in robotic surgery, Dr. Roohipour regularly travels to train other surgeons, contributing to the advancement of minimally invasive surgical techniques worldwide.
Education & Credentials
Dr. Roohipour’s medical education began with his graduation from medical school in 1996, followed by a general surgery residency at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons at Harlem Hospital Center. He expanded his expertise through a series of specialized clinical research fellowships: one year in transplant surgery at the University of Miami, a year in colorectal surgery at Cleveland Clinic Florida, and another year in colorectal oncologic surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He then completed a clinical fellowship in Minimally Invasive, Metabolic, and Endocrine Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
Dr. Roohipour is board-certified in General Surgery by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons (ASMBS). He currently serves as the Program Director of the Bariatric and Advanced GI – Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship at R&R Surgical Institute.

Dr. Roohipour specializes in advanced bariatric and hernia surgeries, with a primary focus on complex bariatric revision surgeries. Additionally, he has expertise in foregut surgeries, including procedures such as hiatal hernia repair, Nissen fundoplication, and Heller myotomy. Dr. Roohipour also provides a range of endoscopic diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to support comprehensive patient care.

Awards & Recognition
Dr. Roohipour has earned numerous awards and recognitions, underscoring his contributions to surgical innovation and patient care. In 2011, he was one of just forty recipients nationwide to receive the prestigious ASMBS Certificate of Acknowledgment for Satisfactory Training in Bariatric Surgery. In 2014, Dr. Roohipour achieved a milestone by performing the first robotic single-site, extra-peritoneal bilateral inguinal hernia surgery (Single Incision Robotic TEP) in the United States. He has also been honored for five consecutive years with the “Compassionate Doctor Recognition” and the “Patient’s Choice” Award and was named one of the Top 10 Surgeons in the LA Metro Area in 2014.

Personal Life
Dr. Roohipour is happily married to the love of his life, and they reside in the South Bay community, where they are proud parents of twins who attend a local school. His wife, a dentist, dedicates her free time to volunteering at their children’s school. Outside his professional life, Dr. Roohipour is an avid pilot and enjoys long-distance cycling along the Pacific Coast. In his leisure time, he also plays tennis and golf.
